artsREACH cares about the mental and spiritual health of our youth. All children benefit from an education in the arts. Healthy, creative young people enhance the quality of life in our community and help create a vibrant tomorrow. Our mandate is to make sure that arts education is accessible to all children, regardless of their financial situation.

artsREACH offers free drawing, painting, printmaking and theatre arts workshops to public elementary schools, focusing on those with a high population of children from low-income families. This year, our goal is to deliver 150 workshops in schools throughout the Capital Region.

In the 2008-2009 school year, the workshops explore the theme of “The Art of Storytelling”. The curriculum introduces students to storytelling arts and theatre from the classical to the contemporary, and encourages them to connect these narratives to their own lives through creative self-expression..

The program was developed to complement the BC Provincial Schools Curriculum and focuses on positive topics such as building safe and healthy communities, multicultural understanding and respect for others.
